About | Mimi Cherie Applebaum, 41, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2019, in Pittsburgh, Penn., from complications of heart surgery and carcinoid cancer. Mimi was born at Memorial Hospital in Yakima on April 30, 1978, to Bud and Susan Applebaum. She grew up in the valley, acting in many local plays and going on to study theater at Western Washington University. During this time, she was diagnosed with carcinoid and returned to Yakima, where she met her husband Ian Cain. Together they created a life full of music, art, theater and books, with all the friends who joined them in these. Mimi was a longtime employee at Inklings Bookstore and a cast member in multiple productions at the Warehouse Theater. In 2017, Mimi and Ian moved to Ian’s hometown of Pittsburgh, where Mimi was part of two major movie productions, created her own online channel, wrote, gardened, frequented museums, and made the most of the city’s abundant public libraries. She will be remembered for her incredible presence of positive energy, radiant inner and outer beauty, creativity and fearlessness in the face of repeated medical adversities. Survivors include her husband Ian, her sister Mara (husband Jason and son Max), and her mother and stepfather Susan and Larry LaRiviere. She is preceded in death by her father Bud. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of life in Mimi’s honor at 3 p.m. on June 29, 2019, at the Warehouse Theater, 1610 S. 24th Ave., Yakima, Wash., 98902. An additional memorial service will take place in Buckeye, Ariz., at the Buckeye Women’s Club at 2 p.m. on June 2, 2019. |
