Dick graduated from West Seattle High School in 1961, setting the stage for a remarkable life dedicated to education, entrepreneurship, and family. On December 30th, 1965, he united in marriage with the love of his life, Coleen Crain, from Kent, Washington. Their love story was the foundation of a family that would become the center of Dick's world. Educationally driven, Dick earned his bachelor's degree from Central Washington in 1965, later obtaining his master's degree in 1972. His teaching career began in the Ilwaco School District, where he not only imparted knowledge but also coached football as the head coach. His journey led him to Yakima where he started teaching and coaching at Washington Junior High and eventually Eisenhower High School, where he spent an impressive 26 years cultivating a nationally renowned mechanical engineering and architectural drafting program. As an assistant football coach and head track coach, he not only shaped minds but also inspired young athletes to reach their full potential. In the early 80s, Dick embraced entrepreneurship, opening Shannon's Hot Spring Spas in Yakima, where he served the community for nearly 30 years. His commitment to excellence extended beyond the business world, as he dedicated himself to providing quality services and products. In 2010, seeking warmth and sunshine, Dick and Coleen relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where they continued to create memories and enjoy the fruits of a life well-lived. From playing football at Central Washington University to teaching and coaching, running a successful business, and pursuing various hobbies with unmatched enthusiasm, Dick approached every endeavor with wholehearted commitment. His love for restoring older Chevrolets into street rods and drag racing, along with his passion for breeding and showing American Shorthair cats, to building and flying control line model airplanes, showcased his zest for life.
