About | The stars in Heaven got a little brighter Friday, October 4, 2019 when Sharman Marie Lewis lost her hard fought battle with cancer and went to be with God. Her hand was held for the start of her journey by her loving husband, Chris. In her final months, Sharman displayed an inner strength that nobody knew she had. She is the strongest woman I have ever met, and I am happy to have been married to her. Sharman, the second child born to Sally and Dennis Aust in Yakima, Washington, was born on June 8, 1976. Sharman had a great childhood, and was a member of “Bluebirds” with her life-long friend, Tami. Later came another life-long friend, Tanya, and the three became inseparable. Bike rides through the neighborhood, sleep overs, and other activities kept the trio together for many years. Sharman was a graduate of Eisenhower High School in 1994. That same year she began working at Standard Paint and Flooring. Less than a year later she was introduced by a fellow employee, Chris Girard, to a man named Christopher Lewis whom she would later go on to marry, have three children with, and spend the next 24 years together as a tight knit family. Sharman was an incredible asset to Standard Paint and held many positions throughout her 25 years with the firm. She held positions in administration, bookkeeping, sales, design, management, purchasing, wrote the company employee manual, and even planned the company Christmas parties. There are many buildings in Yakima that have her design influence: Hotel Mason, Cornerstone, and Waterfire Restaurant, are just a few of the long list of accomplishments. She was serious about her work but was always quick to laugh with her fellow employees. She was well liked by her coworkers and contractors throughout the Yakima valley and beyond. Sharman was very active in her kids’ lives. She could be found at her daughters’ gymnastics practice, soccer practice and games, concerts, and her son’s baseball practice and games. Sharman lived to watch her children grow and loved being a mother and wife. Sharman enjoyed traveling, dining out, fishing, concerts, movies, bowling, campfires, walks at Cannon Beach, and being snuggled into a blanket while binge watching TV series. Most of all, she loved being held by her husband and her children, whether it be a hug and a kiss, a warm embrace or just holding hands. She loved life and was deeply loved by her husband, children, and friends. Sharman was sweet, caring, kind, and an all-around good person. According to her husband, he married the real life version of Maryanne from Gilligan’s Island. She was that kind of girl. Her infectious smile and laugh will be deeply missed by her husband, kids, and family. She will be missed by many people throughout the Yakima valley as well. Sharman is preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Evelynne Aust, and Harvey and Marjorie Eilers, and her mother, Sally Aust. She is survived by her husband, Christopher Lewis, her daughters, Emily Lewis age 16 and Megan age 13, and her 12 year old son, Hunter Lewis, her father, Dennis Aust of Yakima, and her sister, Deanna Silva. Sharman has donated her brain to the Alvord Brain Center at the University of Washington to further advances in the treatment and possible cure for Glioblastoma brain tumors. A GofundMe page has been started to create the Sharman and Chris Lewis Ray of Hope Memorial Fund to help create a foundation to help others suffering with brain cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace of Christ Church (9 S. 8th Ave., Yakima, WA 98902) on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 4:00 pm. A donation in lieu of flowers would be appreciated to get Sharman’s final wish granted. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.
