About | Stanley was born in Seattle on May 18, 1943, to Stanley C. Rall, Sr., and Rachel Kester. Along with Stanley’s big sister Melinda, the family moved to Yakima in 1947. Stanley enjoyed a moment of fame when his baby picture was a winning entry in Swedish Hospital’s I’m a Swedish Baby photo contest. His picture was included on the cover of Swedish Hospital’s 100th anniversary magazine . Stanley graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1961 and from Whitman College in 1965. He went on to earn his PhD in Biochemistry from UC Berkeley in 1970. He worked at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory and subsequently was hired by The Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease in San Francisco. Education was very important to Stanley. He provided the funds for multiple students to attend college. Additionally, he set up scholarship endowments. Stanley was an avid and faithful hydroplane racing fan. His favorite boat was the Oh Boy! Oberto. One of his treasured possessions is an extensive collection of Seafair and hydroplane racing pins. Stanley LOVED all animals, but especially cats. He donated a lot of time and funds to make their lives better. After Stanley’s retirement from Gladstone, Diana met him, the love of her life, in St. Louis. They were married in 1998 in Seattle. Stanley died Sunday, May 27, 2018, after a long battle with leukemia, Graft-Versus-Host-Disease and significant heart problems. He leaves behind Diana, his wife of 20 years, two step-children, Amanda & Daniel; two grandchildren, Ella and Sam; a sister, Melinda, brother-in-law Harley Wahl; two nephews, Bryan & Erik; and one niece; Amy.
