About | Stephan Steve Sutliff, 67, passed away late Christmas Eve, December 24, 2016. Steve was born March 3, 1949, to Warren and Tereca Sutliff in Eugene, Oregon. Steve graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1967 and married Nancy Holm, December 11, 1970. Steve had many jobs ranging from bricklaying to being a part of the hotshot crews with the Winthrop Smokejumpers and Redmond Smokejumpers. He started his law enforcement career in 1980 working with Hanford Patrol. In 1983, Steve joined the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office and remained there for 30 years. While working for the Sheriff’s Office, his duties ranged from Patrol Deputy, DARE Officer, Firearms Instructor, ORV Deputy, as well as the Mountain Pass Deputy. Steve loved every part of his job. He was known to the community as Deputy Steve and was part of the morning show on KIT. In 2004, he was diagnosed with Leukemia, but that didn’t stop him. He continued to work for the Sheriff’s Office and enjoyed vacation time by traveling with family. In 2013, Steve retired from the Sheriff’s Office to concentrate on the things he loved in life and frequently traveled with his wife. Steve battled many health issues for many years and fought and won many of them; he could not have done it without the support of his family, friends and community who continued to be a part of Steve’s life. Steve is survived by his wife Nancy, Holly (Glenn Bozorth, granddog Rilee) Sutliff, and Scott (Emily, granddaughter Sarah) Sutliff of Yakima; Phil Sutliff of Kennewick, Martin (Dani) Sutliff of Wisconsin, Annalee (Herb) Flannery of Yakima. Steve did not wish to have any funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Yakima Fraternal Order of Police, P.O. Box 10756, Yakima, WA 98909. Steve’s family would a lso like to thank Dr. DeMarco-Garcia, Dr. Cavenaugh, Laurie Haggerty, Darren Joffs, and all the other nurses and doctors that have helped the Sutliff family along the way. 114 is 10-42.
