About | Stephen Collingwood Barnett, fondly known by all as "Goobs," died peacefully on August 4, 2022, at his home in Moxee, Washington, at age 69. As he embarked on his cancer journey in 2021, Steve prepared his own obituary, and it reads: "Goobs' great adventure ended today. I have had the greatest honor in doing, and knowing all the generosity, kindness and love from those of you around me, whether it was for a moment or a lifetime. Thank you!" Stephen Collingwood Barnett was born in Windom, Minnesota, to The Rev. Webster Gesner Barnett and Mary Shirley Barnett. He attended Groveland Elementary School, in Minnetonka, Minnesota, St. James Military School, in Faribault, Minnesota, and St. John's Cathedral Boys School, in Selkirk, Manitoba, before moving to Yakima with his family in 1968. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1971. Steve worked in many fields throughout his career, from restaurants, to finance, to agriculture. He was proud to be partners with his brother, Andy, in opening Pizza Brothers in 1978 in Yakima. He retired from East Valley School District 90 in 2021 as the famous driver of a brand-new school bus, #23. Steve found great joy in spending quality time with his dogs, Buster and Jakers, his friends, and his family. He studied rock formations and geology of the western states, was an avid reader,?and had an insatiable passion for travel.?His bold outdoor adventures began as a young man, exploring hundreds of miles of Lake Minnetonka by canoe. Throughout the years you could find Goobs driving anything that would roll, biking of all kinds, flying a plane as a licensed pilot, and boating everywhere from the San Juan's to Tahiti. He was a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group. Goobs was embraced by a life-long group of friends, who he saw as family. Steve was the most dedicated, big-hearted, fiercely independent, hardworking, life loving, humorous, and positive man. He gave his family a lifetime worth of quality love and affection. Our lives are forever positively imprinted because of him. Stephen is survived by his life partner, Cindy Fiscus, and her two daughters, Christina Fiscus and Angela Lundberg (Josh), brother, Andrew Barnett, two sisters, Rebecca Barnett Campbell (Joe) and Elizabeth Barnett (Blake), stepdaughter, Jessica Cavanaugh (Jason), stepson, Trevor McCorkindale (Megan), nieces and nephews, cousins, and eight grandchildren, who called him "Papa Goobs" and "Stevie."
