About | Ward Johnson 66, of Corvallis, OR passed away Nov 22, 2023, after enduring 3 years of cancer. Ward graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1975, and then attended Central Washington University, Western Washington University and went on to graduate from the University of Washington in 1980 in the Zoology Department. He spent months in Alaska helping with studies on the salmon population and once back home Ward would share stories galore of his adventures and the people he made friends with. His latest work involved computer programing at Oregon State University in Corvallis where he was employed until June of 2023. Ward’s love of the outdoors inspired him to attend the Boy Scout National Jamboree in New Mexico in the early ‘70’s. As the Scouts taught him, he was always prepared whenever he ventured to one of the many peaks he climbed throughout his life. He led a group of high school friends up Mount Adams during the Bi-Centennial ascent in 1976. He spent many days in the North Cascades wilderness climbing and exploring the area as well as completing many sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. His friends remember fondly the time spent with Ward being introduced to the latest music and current trends of the day. Music such as George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord”, will always remind us of Ward’s dorm room in Bellingham relaxing on his bean bag chairs on the living room carpet. Ward was a superb trumpet player and would compete for 1st chair trumpet throughout his time in band at Ike. He was in the Ike Marching Band and the Pep Band leading the trumpet section with amazing musicianship. Ward was also on the yearbook staff his junior and senior year. We miss you Ward. |
