Memorial services for John G. Beitz, 59, of Macon, will be led by the Reverend Jim Braswell on Friday, May 14th, 2010, beginning at 7P.M., in the sanctuary of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, located on the corner of Pierce and Ingleside Avenues. Visitation with family and friends will be welcomed at 6:00 P.M. in the church's fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church, 390 Pierce Avenue, 31204. -Though born in Corvallis, Oregon, John claimed Moses Lake, WA, to be his home. He was graduated from Moses Lake High School in 1968. After enlisting in the U.S. Navy at the age of 18, he proudly served his country for almost 5 years during the Vietnam conflict, serving a complete year with "boots on the ground" in Cam Ranh Bay, RVN. In 1974, he accepted an invitation from a Navy buddy and moved from Seattle to Macon. -In 1976, John joined the team at YKK, USA, Inc., and actively contributed to building the U.S. division of YKK, Inc., a high volume, Japanese manufacturing environment. Completing 30 years of service with the company in 2006, he took that valuable experience and claimed an opportunity which enabled him to achieve a long-time dream of holding a college degree. To his credit, John completed the required course of study at Macon State College in December of 2009, and the school graduated him with a B.S. Degree in IT Business Management during its May 7th, 2010 ceremonies. -For 17 years, the Beitzes have been active members of The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. There, John enjoyed teaching an adult Sunday School class, serving as an assisting minister and Church Council member, greeting and ushering worshipers, and encouraging Christian fellowship, stewardship, and evangelism. -Professionally, John was a member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), Section 1525; APICS, The Association for Operations Management; and Phi Beta Lamda. He also co-founded Corbin Avenue N'watch. -He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Young Beitz; his daughter, Elizabeth McKinzie Beitz, with his soon to be son-in-law, Michael D. Strickland; and his son, Matthew D. Beitz, all of Macon; his brother, Robert W. Beitz, (Rose) of Fairfield, WA; his sister, Betty Jo Beitz Hilyard (Kurt), of Yakima, WA; and his maternal aunt, Marilyn Kennedy Isom of St. Louis, MO; two nieces and four nephews; two great nieces and two great nephews. |
