About Gary Haines and Susan Walton were married June 21,1971 and continued to complete their college degrees from Washington State University. Gary's Degree was in Forestry and his first job after College was with the Couer D'Alene Tribe of Idaho inventorying timber lands and developing small mill and business entities. Moving to Alaska in 1978, Gary was instrumental in the Native Claims Settlement Act which coordinated a cooperative company for several Native Groups. Gary and a computer writer spent several weeks on Afognak Island and Kodiak hammering out a computer program that produced a sustainable logging plan for all native groups. He cruised timber and oversaw logging operations on Afognak Island and establishing "stump to dump" sites throughout southeast Alaska. This is where Gary and Susan became born again Christians. Gary loved the hunting and fishing lying at his doorstep! Moving South to Spokane, he partnershipped three stores of the first Take and Bake Pizzas. Relocating in the Cle Elum area, Gary worked for Weyhauser and Plum Creek. Like a gypsy, Gary moved to Olympia, WA and worked for Tumwater Lumber Company until his death in 2004. Gary corrageously fought cancer for two years and was a testimony to his church, associates in the timber industry, friends and family. Known for his happy countenance and whistling in high school, he was the same fun-loving person throughout his life and affectionally called by his associates as "good guy Gary."
