About | ouglas Lee Buchanan, 61, a resident of Birdsview, WA, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017, following a brief illness. Doug was born on October 29, 1956 in Sedro Woolley, the son of Lawrence “Toby” & Ruth (Harris) Buchanan. He was born and raised in Sedro Woolley, WA, graduating from Sedro Woolley High School with the class of 1975, after which he enlisted into the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country. For many years, Doug worked as head of security for the Providence Point Retirement Community in Issaquah. After returning to the Skagit Valley, he worked security for the Upper Skagit Casino and then as a bus driver for Skagit Transit for several years. Doug was an avid golfer, hosting annual tournaments and enjoyed working on his property and caring for numerous adopted animals. Doug is survived by his father, Lawrence “Toby” Buchanan of Easton, WA; his longtime companion, Darlene Williams of Birdsview; sister, Carolyn Buchanan-Counts of Lyman, brothers, Hank Buchanan and wife Nancy of Cullowhee, NC, and Larry Buchanan of Cle Elum, WA; daughters, Nicole and Tara; 8 grandchildren; one niece, numerous nephews, cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Buchanan-Whitworth; brother, Robert Buchanan and step-father, James Whitworth. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the Van Zandt Cemetery in Whatcom County with Pastor Bill Bates officiating |
