About November 10, 1944 - December 16, 2023

Tacoma, Washington - Amiele M. Olson (Hansen), of Tacoma, WA, passed away on December 16th, 2023 at Eliseo Retirement Community in Tacoma. She was surrounded by family members.

Amiele was born in Tacoma, WA, to Frank Phibbs and Wilma Aakre; she was later adopted by Melvin R. Olson. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim Hansen, and her brother Matthew Olson (Phibbs). Amiele is survived by her siblings Sonya (Olson) and Stephen Merz, Marc Olson, her three children, Joel, Wendy, and James, and her many loving grandchildren and extended family.

Amiele attended Mason Junior High and Stadium High schools in Tacoma. It was at Stadium that she met the love of her life and future husband, Jim A. Hansen, with whom she attended Washington State University to pursue a lifelong career in teaching. Anyone who knew Amiele and Jim will attest to their love of, and enthusiastic identity with, the educational community and mission.

Upon graduation from WSU, Amiele and Jim moved back to Tacoma to start a family. Amiele taught English as a Second Language at the Annie Wright School in north Tacoma. She was a devoted and well-respected educator and earned the affection of many in the community.

In the mid-1990s, Amiele moved with Jim to the country, near Seabeck, WA, where they resided for 30 years. Amiele took on substitute teaching in the Kitsap and Bremerton school districts, while her husband, Jim, served as Vice Principal at North Kitsap High School. In her twilight years, Amiele enjoyed a peaceful and idyllic farm life with Jim, boarding horses and raising chickens in the couple's small but beautiful Creekside estate. Most of all, Amiele enjoyed spending time with her eight grandchildren, and keeping in contact with her many friends and former students. Amiele was a born caretaker and a beautiful soul-she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
