About | Carl Wayne “Cookie” Withrow of St. Albans went to be with our Lord on Thursday November 18, 2010, after a long illness. His love for the Lord was evident by the way he lived his life, loved his family and served his church. Born May 24, 1943, in St. Albans, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Dorothy Withrow. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Withrow. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Judy Cyrus Withrow; and children, Carl Withrow Jr. and wife Sybil, Leighann Hamrick and husband Dr. R. Edward Hamrick Jr., and Danielle McCray and husband Michael; 10 grandchildren, Matthew and Kaelin Withrow, Roland Edward “R.E.” III, Patrick, Robert, Tura Elizabeth, Benjamin Carl, Jackson Hamrick, Dakota and Sophia McCray. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Withrow and wife Dinah; and sister-in-law, Mary Nell. He had numerous nieces and nephews. Carl married his lifelong soulmate, Judy, on February 2, 1962. They spent 49 years together raising their family in St. Albans. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 14 years, active and reserve duty. He was a graduate of St. Albans High School and West Virginia State College. He worked for FMC and Kaiser Aluminum. He was a magistrate and the Sheriff of Kanawha County from 1981-1985. Carl was past president of the Coal Rivers Lions Club, past president of American Legion, and on the board of trustees of American Police Hall of Fame and Museum. He was in Who's Who in West Virginia 1983-84, and Who's Who in American Law Enforcement 1983. He had numerous hobbies, including music, playing his many guitars, antique cars and his grandchildren. |
