Charles I. Warn, age 71, of Reedsburg, died Friday morning, July 26, 2013, in his home. He was born on June 16, 1942 in Oroville, California, the son of Merle and Pearl (Holcomb) Warn. Chuck was a 1961 graduate of Baraboo High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy working as an aircraft engine mechanic. While serving in active duty, he was aboard the USS Intrepid CVS-11, the ship responsible for retrieving astronaut John Glenn. Chuck was also involved on the recovery ship of a Mercury and a Gemini space mission. He later served for two years in the U.S. Naval Reserve. On December 17, 1966, he was united in marriage to the former Mary A. Stanek. Chuck worked for the Sauk County Highway Department from 1965 to 1998. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of The Eagles, the Reedsburg V.F.W. Post 1916 and a member of St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed square dancing with the Loganville Promenadors, listening to the Kristi B band, hunting, bowling, gardening and spending time with his grandsons. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two children: Robert (Cora) Warn, of Hillsboro and Tanya Stanek, of Reedsburg; two grandchildren: Jacob Susa and Edward Warn with another on the way in December; his brothers and sisters: Cecile (Bill) Peterson, of Idaho; Susan Johnson, of Wisconsin Dells; Andrew (Amy) Warn, of Arizona; Patrick Warn, of Reedsburg and Theresa (Scott) Huffman, of Nevada; two sisters-in-law: Jeanette Benseman and Marveline Wienke; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother: Lorraine Warn; his brother: Dan and three brothers-in-law: Michael Johnson, Gordon Benseman and Wayne Wienke. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor David Glesne officiating. Military rites will follow the service. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family. |
