About | POYNETTE/MADISON -- Adam J. Riek, age 34, of Poynette, and formerly of Madison, died on Thursday, April 27, 2000. Adam was born on February 16, 1966, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Karen (Schmidt) Riek and the late Donald Lee Riek. He graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 1984. Adam attended MATC and UW-Madison. Adam was a member of the 467th Medical Detachment (CSC) Department of the Army in Madison. He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Adam enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 25, 1984, and served on active duty from July 25, 1984, through June 23, 1987. From June 24, 1987, through the present, he served in the U.S. Army Reserves through current assignment with the 467th Medical Detachment (CSC) with his current rank of staff sergeant. Adam's military specialties were infantryman, calvary scout, occupational therapist and drill sergeant. He was employed by SITEL Technical Services in Madison. Survivors include his mother, Karen Riek, of Sun Prairie; his sister, Lana Riek, of Missouri; and his maternal grandfather, Herman Schmid, of Verona. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald; his grandparents, Agatha and Henry Riek, and Anita Meryl Schmid. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2000, at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb, with burial at Verona Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2000, at ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME. Full military honors will be accorded by the 467th Medical Detachment of Madison. A memorial fund will be established in Adam's name at a later time. |
