David L Oas Obituary

Graduation Year Class of 1962
Date of Passing Mar 09, 2001
About David L. "Owl" Oas, age 56, of Menomonie, Wis. died Friday, March 9, 2001 at Myrtle Werth Hospital-Mayo Health Systems in Menomonie.

He was born Aug. 16, 1944 in Menomonie, Wis. to Leonard and Viola (Brehm) Oas. He graduated from Menomonie High School in 1962 where he played basketball and football. In 1963 he attended UW-Stout. He then went to vocational school in Eau Claire and received an associate degree in accounting in 1965.

Dave married Marcia Buckley on Dec. 12, 1964 at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie. After their marriage, Dave attended management training at Midland Cooperative in Hayward. In 1966 he was the store manager in Dorchester, then managed a Midland Co-op store in Spooner from 1966 to 1969.

In 1969, Dave returned to Menomonie where he was produce manager for Lammer's Supermarket for more than five years. In 1975, he became an agent for American Family Insurance, and in 1990 became an independent agent. He currently owns Menomonie Insurance Agency. He worked closely with and enjoyed friendships with his girls, "George" Close and Mary Mogen.

Dave played fast-pitch for the Hideaway as a high school student in 1960. He also played fast-pitch ball for Villa Pizza/Lee's Drug Store and Hedlund's of Boyceville. He and Marcia enjoyed being with the Hedlund Team over the years and have continued the many friendships that occurred.

But it was in slow-pitch softball where Dave found his niche. He played for several teams including Kerm's in Eau Claire and went to the nationals in Tulsa, Okla. for Jake's Supper Club. He called sports "the best thing I ever did."

During the days when his children were in high school, he religiously attended each and every one of their games. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their games.

Dave was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, and he was very involved in fundraising activities for Hospice. He was also a member of the Dunn County Fish and Game and the Menomonie Chamber of Commerce. In addition to these activities, he loved to ride his Harley, go boating, and grill out with family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Marcia; a son Jeffery (Toni) Oas of Menomonie; a daughter Cheryl (Brandon) Uffelman of LaCrescent, Minn.; four grandchildren, Berlee and David "D.J." Oas, Brady and Logan Uffelman; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jeannine Evan and Karen Scholfield
