About Eugene "Gene" B. Stratton, age 69 of Boyceville, WI died Monday, February 25, 2013 at Dunn County Healthcare Center, Menomonie, after a bout with cancer.

Gene was born March 18, 1943 in Menomonie Township, Wisconsin the son of Laverne and Leoma (Williams) Stratton. He was a graduate of Menomonie High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. From 1964-1965, Gene was stationed in Germany and when he came home, he met and married Brenda L. Stusek in Appleton, WI on May 21, 1966. From his Radio Technician training in the service, he was able to land a job with Wisconsin Bell Telephone retiring after 27 years of dedicated service.

After retiring from being a "cable splicer" for the telephone company, Gene also was a "sawyer" and operated their own saw mill. He would log and cut wood for himself and for others that logged the land, making building materials. He did take time out of busy schedule to "Deer Hunt." He enjoyed the outdoors and especially bow-hunting.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Brenda of Boyceville; two daughters, Belinda Stratton, Amanda (James) Birnstengel; one son, Lance; two grandsons, Sam and Ben Birnstengel; four siblings, LaVera Larson, Mary Ann (Norman) Gralow, DuWayne Stratton and Merlin (Sue) Stratton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Leoma (Williams) Stratton; and one sister, Darlene Baldwin; and two brothers-in-law, Mike Larson and Don Baldwin.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie. There will be visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at Olson Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday. Burial will be in the spring at Lower Weston Cemetery, Weston Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin with military honors by Menomonie Veterans Honor Guard.
