About Larry K. Rhead, age 70, of Menomonie, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.

Larry King Rhead was born on Feb. 22, 1943, in Menomonie to Nim and Hazel (King) Rhead. The family moved to Cedar Falls in 1948 where Larry attended grade school, then graduated from Menomonie High School in 1961.

Larry served his country for four years in the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. He then went on to receive a B.A. degree in psychology and sociology from UW-Eau Claire in 1969.

On Dec. 21, 1965, Larry married Susan Brown in Boston, Mass. They returned to Wisconsin shortly after their marriage and resided in Cedar Falls for the remainder of their life. On Nov. 17, 1969, a daughter, Carrie Beth, was born to them.

Larry began his career in 1974, when he started Alpha House, now called Positive Alternatives. In 1978 he took a job at Dunn County Human Services as a juvenile court worker, and in 1980 he accepted the position of Supervisor for the Dunn County Family and Children's Services Unit. He remained in this position until his retirement in 1998.

Larry is survived by a daughter, Carrie Lecheler (Craig Lecheler); and grandson, Jack Lecheler of Menomonie. He is also survived by a brother, Don Rhead of Ames, Iowa; a sister, Lois Debee of Menomonie; and brother, David (Patti) Rhead, of Menomonie. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Susan, in 2010; and a granddaughter.

"To set the record straight, he was the brother who shot the dining room light fixture out with his brother David's BB gun."
