About | Lawrence E. Quilling Dunn County News, Sun, Nov. 28, 1999, A6 Lawrence E. Quilling, “The Barber,” 71, of Menomonie, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at the American Lutheran Home in Menomonie. He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Menomonie to Ralph W. and Julia (Wold) Quilling. Lawrence was baptized in November of 1928 and confirmed on April 5, 1942, at the Iron Creek E.U.B. Church. He attended Iron Creek Country School and graduated in 1946 from Menomonie High School. He graduated in 1947 from Lee’s Barber School and then worked 52 years as a barber. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1948 to 1950. He married Joyce Linse on Sept. 17, 1949, at the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Lawrence was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was active on the Church Cemetery Board and School Board. He was a member of the Menomonie Jaycees and the Wisconsin Jaycees. Lawrence was also active in Republican Party politics and was a member of Hosford-Chase Post #32 of the American Legion. Lawrence was a great whistler and enjoyed singing. He also enjoyed playing ball in his yard with the neighboring kids when his children were growing up. Lawrence and his wife celebrated their 50th anniversary last September with Conrad John’s Orchestra playing at the celebration. Lawrence will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; four daughters, Ardith (Edward) Richter of Tallahassee, Fla., Linda Petersen of Rockford, Ill., Diane (Dale) Sandborg of Mankato, Minn., and Sandra Smith of Yucaipa, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Ivan and Barry Roseland, Melanie Stoddard, Rebecca Chorny, Cpl. Daniel Petersen, Betsy and Jacob Quilling, and Sally and Gus Sandborg; one great-granddaughter, Alex Myer; one brother, Gerald (Mary) Quilling of Rochester Hills, Mich.; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Jennifer Ann Roseland. Memorial services were Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at the Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with the Rev. Daniel Schmidt officiating. Burial of the cremains was in Iron Creek Cemetery in the Town of Spring Brook with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard of Menomonie.
