Events Gale H. Uttech, 89, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Gale Henry Uttech was born on January 10, 1935, in Madison, WI, the son of Leonard and Dorothy (Barrett) Uttech. In 1953, Gale graduated from Watertown High School, where he was a standout athlete in baseball, football, and track. Notably, he was an All-American football fullback and had the honor of trying out for the Milwaukee Braves baseball team. Gale married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Sellnow, on November 13, 1954, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Watertown. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2013.



After graduating from high school, Gale pursued a career in carpentry and eventually mastered his trade. He worked at Provimi Veal and owned and operated Uttech Finish Carpentry. With a career spanning 50 years, Gale retired at the age of 75, having helped build his children's homes along the way.



Gale was an avid hunter, especially of white-tailed deer, and walleye fisherman. He constructed a beloved cabin in Adams-Friendship, where he enjoyed bringing his family together for memorable gatherings.



Gale is survived by his son, Mark (Patricia) Uttech of Watertown; daughter, Sheen (Mike) Katzenberger of Milwaukee; and son, Kirk (Becky) Uttech of Lake Mills. His grandchildren, Gale R. Uttech and Monique Uttech; Arcadia Katzenberger; Trentin Uttech; Nicole Stark; and Lucas (Holly) Stark; his six great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.



Gale was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis Uttech; and brothers, Max Uttech and Patrick Pauloski .



A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Watertown with Pastor Jerry Ewings officiating. Family and friends may gather at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown on Sunday, August 4, 2024, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., and on Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at Glenview Memorial Gardens in Ixonia. Memorials, if desired, can be donated to St. John’s Church in Watertown, WI, or to Rainbow Hospice.
