Events | Marlene M. Meiers, 90, of Watertown, peacefully passed from this life into her eternal one at her home on January 22, 2024, after living a life filled with love for her family, cherished friends, and her Catholic faith. She was born on June 7, 1933, in Clyman, WI, to Olive and Frank Kreitzman. After graduating from Watertown Senior High School, she moved to Milwaukee and worked as a secretary for the Allen Bradley Company. On a night out dancing in Ixonia, she met and later married her one true love, Ralph Meiers, with whom she shared 67 years of love and happiness. Marlene’s primary occupation was raising her two children. While they were in school, she frequently made batches of cupcakes and desserts for school functions and consistently served as a room mother. She attended every extracurricular activity they participated in and provided a lifetime of love and support. She was active in the community and enjoyed donating her time to various organizations. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Ladies of the Elks, Catholic Women’s Club, Euterpe Club, the Red Hat Society, and served on the board for Community Concerts & the Watertown Concert Series. Marlene had a zest for life, trying new things, giving to others, and lifelong learning. As an avid reader, she always had a book by her side. She loved music, traveling, playing games, nature, animals, and especially birds. She always had a bird book handy to identify any unknown species that showed up to one of her many feeders. As a member of Saint Henry’s Catholic Church in Watertown, she taught religious education and served as an usher. Once she was introduced to the Schoenstadt Sisters of Mary in Waukesha, WI, she found a place where she could further develop in her faith. The influence of the Virgin Mary guided many of her actions and thoughts and she became a Schoenstadt Federation member. She routinely supported a wide range of organizations, including St. Jude’s, the American Lung Association, The Nature Conservancy, and Wisconsin Public Television, to name a few. Marlene is survived by her loving husband, Ralph, her two children, Lisa Meiers (CJ Woody), and Kurt Meiers (Katie), her granddaughter, Viola, who brought joy to her heart; her beloved sister, Ione Staude (Herb); her niece, Renee Meiller (Alden), her nephew, Greg Staude (Alisa), her great nieces Emily, Talia, Kiera, and a special extended family member, Larry Meiller. Her family includes other loved relatives and decades-long friends, who cherished her smile, kindness, and generosity. The family would like to thank her caregivers, doctors, friends, and the wonderful staff at the Watertown Pick N’ Save Pharmacy for their kindness, care, and support. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Madison Audubon Society, Stand Up to Cancer, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Viewing will be held on February 9 at St. Henry’s Catholic Church, 412 N 4th St, Watertown, WI, from 10-11 a.m., with mass of Christian Burial to follow. Procession to Oak Hill Cemetery after services. Hafemeister Funeral Home and Cremation Service is serving the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hafemeisterfh.com. |
