About | Harold Nelson Foster passed away September 3, 2022, in Scottsdale, AZ. Hal was born April 17, 1923, in Norwich, NY, to Cleo (Holcomb) and Rupert Foster. Like most kids growing up poor during the Depression, he learned to make the best of very little. After his parents separated, he was adopted by his maternal grandmother and moved with her to Wheatland, WY. He attended high school there and, after graduation in 1941, enlisted in the Army Air Corps. On July 24, 1943, while on active duty during WW II, Hal married Angeline Lorraine Erickson (Angie). Their life together included many years of military service and the attendant moving. During their 77-year marriage, they established over 30 homes across the U.S. and on Pacific islands. Hal retired from the Air Force in 1968 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Hal and Angie moved to Arizona where they established second careers in real estate and then retired again. They loved to travel the highways. Hal and Angie’s road trips found them driving four different recreational vehicles to visit family and friends, try their luck at various casinos, and enjoy sites mostly west of the Mississippi River. Hal was also a poet for his own enjoyment and had some spirited rhyming duels by mail with his brother-in-law, Elmer Erickson. Hal was respected as a gentleman and a scholar. He was honest and dependable, a guy who was always there when you needed him. Hal took care of his family, served his country, and worked harder than everyone else. Hal was preceded in death by his wife (Angie), his father and mother (Rupert Lynn Foster and Cleo Daisy Holcomb Foster), his brother (Robert Holden Foster) and his sister (Arline Virginia Foster). By the time he passed away at age 99, Hal was also preceded in death by most of his cousins and friends. Hal is survived by his children, Ron Foster (Roxie) and Sheryl Stone (Jack), four grandchildren (Kristen [Tadd], Andrea, Adam, Noah [Holly]), six great-grandchildren (Alex [Lisa], Andy [Alyssa], Adam [Kristen], Tori, Taylor, Luke); and two great-great-granddaughters (Aubree, Raegan). With pride and gratitude, Hal’s family celebrates his life - a life well lived. |
